Second Opinion & Advice
When is a medical second opinion useful?
An independent medical opinion can be very helpful in many situations – for example with complex or unclear findings, before a planned surgery, or if you are uncertain whether a recommended procedure is really necessary. Especially in the field of peripheral nerve disorders, additional expertise can help to avoid unnecessary interventions and to make well-founded decisions. In my Practice for Peripheral Nerves – Dr. Bruckmoser near Munich, I offer nerve diagnostics near Munich and can provide you with an objective and careful assessment based on many years of experience as a neurosurgeon.
What should I bring for a second opinion?
Please bring all available medical documents, such as doctor’s letters, previous findings and examination reports. Imaging studies (e.g. MRI, CT, ultrasound) are particularly important. If you already had electrophysiological tests such as EMG or NCS , these results are also very helpful. The more complete the documentation, the more precise and reliable the assessment can be.
How does the consultation work?
First, we take the time to discuss your medical history, your symptoms and your questions in detail. Afterwards, the available findings and images are carefully reviewed. Based on this, you will receive a clear and honest evaluation of whether further examinations may be advisable and which treatment options could be considered. If necessary, additional nerve diagnostics (for example high-resolution nerve ultrasound or neurophysiological procedures) can be performed in my practice.
Does my insurance cover an independent medical opinion?
The costs for such an expert assessment are often not automatically covered by health insurance. As a private medical practice, we are required to bill our services transparently according to the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ). We will be happy to inform you in advance about the expected costs so that you can decide with clarity.
For a neutral explanation of the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ) in English, please see this external resource provided by Feather Insurance: GOÄ explanation at Feather.
